Need Help Sorting Through The Current Social Media Environment? Check Out These Five Resources

Engaging with customers and generating leads through social media in today’s climate can be extremely tricky for small business owners.

Not only must they stay updated on and knowledgeable about the social platforms used by current or prospective customers, but they also have to develop engaging and easy-to-pivot marketing strategies amid a global pandemic and the largest social movement in American history. To help entrepreneurs figure it all out, I’m highlighting five useful resources I discovered this week that shouldn’t be missed.

1. TikTok Imitators

Last month, TikTok launched TikTok For Business with the aim of facilitating brands’ abilities to get their content in front of the audiences they want to see it on the platform. But brands’ abilities to reach audiences worldwide is being compromised by governments’ TikTok bans. The Indian government is prohibiting TikTok along with other Chinese apps due to security concerns. Now, President Donald Trump says he’s pondering whether to ban TikTok in the United States, which has outraged so-called TikTok-tivists who’ve been churning out negative reviews of Trump’s campaign app in response.

As TikTok hits governmental snags, its competitors are rolling out TikTok-inspired tools. Instagram is testing TikTok-esque Reels, and YouTube is experimenting with a new mobile feature allowing users to record 15-second long multi-segment videos. It’s unlikely these rivals will throw TikTok from its short-form throne and, even if they do, viral videos aren’t going anywhere, and brands should be attempting to create them. To inform that creation, here’s a rundown of 17 types of engaging video content people love to watch.

2. Social Media Metrics

Whether you handle social media for your business internally or through an agency, it’s vital to ensure your social reporting strategy aligns with your business goals. 5. Small Business Goal Setting

Whether you’re already a business owner or dreaming of launching a company, the act of setting business goals is critical to success. Instagram marketing specialist Later wants to help you do it. It teamed up with Katie Ruddell, owner of Kokomo, a plant-based cafe in Vancouver, Canada, to host a small business tutorial that’s it uploaded to YouTube. In the YouTube video, Ruddell touches upon creating a 10-year life and business vision, sharing goals with confidence, achieving goals with actionable steps, and bringing goals into the every day with a daily manifestation prompt.
