Five Funny And Inspirational Social Media Picks From This Week

Communication and social interaction play vital roles in human life. They underpin how we share information and build relationships. Adhering to social distancing and stay-at-home orders has forced us to completely rethink how we communicate and interact.

While we’re adjusting, often alone, one thing’s for certain: hope and belief in our common decency remain. Even in the darkest hour, we’re spreading encouraging messages to lift each other up. The messages can be funny, sentimental or inspirational. Content on social media this week reinforced the idea that, if done well, it’s valuable to incorporate humor to engage audiences overwhelmed by bad news and tough circumstances.

Here are five social media developments that recently caused me to chuckle and gave me the feels:

1. Life-Changing Haircuts

Over the last few years, Jason Schneidman, founder of TheMensGroomer Foundation, has been giving open-air haircuts to the homeless and collaborating with rehab centers to assist those struggling with drugs and alcohol addiction. Schneidman is using his platform and previous history with addiction to help people cope from home while offering a bit of social-distancing comical relief. See video below showing him grooming from afar with a broom.

2. Life-Affirming Skincare

Lockdowns haven’t stopped licensed esthetician Terrell Britten from spreading his skincare enthusiasm. He’s doling out #SkincareAndAffirmations from home. While suggesting Youth To The People’s Age Prevention Superfood mask, his affirmation was, “I am going to create better successful habits each day.” No longer able to work with regular clients, he demonstrates products on himself or his family members. Britten recently gave his mom a facial steam with Dr. Dennis Gross’s streamer. Seems like he’s got Mother’s Day in the bag.

3. Lighthearted Lifesavers

The jobs of healthcare workers battling the coronavirus are incredibly serious, but that doesn’t mean they have to be serious all the time. Doctors and nurses are going viral dancing. Nurse Casper communicates about the state of the coronavirus fight between TikTok dance moves and animated graphics.

4. Life’s A Puzzle

Domestic confinement has triggered puzzle mania. People are posting their in-progress #covidpuzzle activities and savvy marketers have caught on. Companies are now encouraging this growing hobby. Base Beauty made puzzles for its clients, and Heinz created an entirely red puzzle with 570 pieces to foster puzzle camaraderie and ketchup love.

5. The Beautiful Small Moments That Make Up Life

As they go about their normal routines, pets and people spark smiles. Cats lounging, wandering and working at bodegas are cute and, on occasion, creepy. UPS dogs are irresistible as they make deliveries around the country. Maureen Salmon situated a camera on her front lawn and, with signs, prodded passersby to walk in a witty manner. She records them and posts their silly strolls on Instagram. Watch Salmon’s Stories to check out how she pairs the ambles with music.
